The 130 cm balloon needs more headroom and more mast than the 100 W unit, and it catches more wind. On a permanent terrace, use the fixed mount rather than a tripod.

The extra output, in practice

28,000 lm against 14,000 lm is one stop of exposure, which sounds small on paper and is obvious in a photograph: the second row of tables is lit, the trees behind the ceremony are visible, and the white channel can be dimmed rather than run flat out.

The 130 cm balloon is the other half of the difference. A larger source is softer, so the 200 W unit reads gentler at the same output than a smaller fixture would.

  • Headroom: roughly 3 m clear for the balloon and mast.
  • Mast or truss rating for a heavier fixture.
  • Whether the venue needs DMX, which is an order time option.

Two units or one

For a wedding lawn, two 100 W units on opposite sides usually beat one 200 W unit in the middle: the light comes from two directions, so faces are modelled and the shadow from one fixture is filled by the other.

For a stage front or a long garden, one 200 W unit at the far end throws further. The coverage shape is a circle, so the geometry of the space decides.

Colour, white and the mixed look

The white channel can stay on while the colour channels run at a low level, which gives a tinted white rather than a saturated colour. That is the setting most venues settle on for dinner, before switching to full colour later.

Dynamic modes are worth testing on site. The speed that looks right in a showroom is usually too fast in a room with people in it.

Before the order

  • Height: 3 m clear for the 130 cm balloon and mast.
  • Mount: tripod for temporary, fixed mount for a permanent terrace.
  • Spares: a spare 130 cm diffuser is the difference between one night and one week.
